British troops came to Staten Island on July 3rd the army slowly grew when Richard Howe came with more troops. The battle took place in many places like Brooklyn, Manhattan, the heights of Guan, and more. News of the upcoming battle came in July 1776. The war started on August 26th and went to August 29th. The battle was most likely started after the defeat in Boston, and the British troops wanted to get New York City so the could gain more power. The battle started when fire broke out at Long Island.
The British Troops, after being defeated in Boston, waned to gain more power by taking over New York. New York is a very important place to society and was well protected, bye George Washington and his troops. When George Washington heard that William Howe, and his army, were going to try and attack New York, they started to get ready for an ambush. The attack was planned carefully as Richard Howe brought in more troops.
Before the Beginning of the battle British troops started landing on Staten Island to prepare for battle.
